Energy

Development of new alternative sources of power generation, such as the development of solar cells, fuel cells, biofuelcells and new methods for production of biodiesel and determination of its purity degree. In these topics we seek for collaborations with other research groups from our University to research the use nanostructured materials, which present advantages over mass materials.

Structure of Matter

Macroscopic properties of matter depend on its composition, degree of microscopic organization and the environment in which it is immersed. Thus, the study of the structure of matter allows to predict and interpret the chemical behavior of substances, functionality and material properties. Specialties related to this research include spectroscopy, theoretical chemistry, supramolecular and nanochemistry, structural biochemistry, materials science and studies of structure-reactivity.

Transformation Processes

Chemical transformation processes are linked to functional and structural changes of substances and materials. This research area is defined by the recognition, characterization, interpretation and analysis of these processes. Specialties to be developed are: separation processes, petrochemical, development of analytical instrumentation, synthesis and preparation of chemical substances, pigment fluorescence investigation, formation and standard reactivity of free radicals and reactive chemicals species, biodegradable ionic liquids, molecular dynamics and methods of hybrid modeling, development of nanostructured materials and their use in electrocatalysis, fuel cells, biofuelcells and biosensors.
